San Diego, CA : Navaid Hamid, Secretary of the National Integration Council (Government of India) will be coming to San Diego to meet with African American leaders of the community.Mr. Hamid recently visited San Diego through the International Visitors Leadership Program through the U.S. Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.After completing his travels across the nation, he saw the need to travel again throughout the nation on behalf of the South Asian Council for Minorities to advocate for minority mobilization for the Global Minorities Meet summit.
Mr. Hamid will be at the Urban League of San Diego County on April 16, 2010 from 5:30 -7:30 to exchange dialogue with African American leadership and grass root organizers. About Navaid Hameed’s Professional Background - Mr. Hamid is a grass roots organizer, who has long worked to promote minority rights in India. To enlarge the participation of Indian Muslims in educational institutions, decision-making bodies, and public employment he established the Association of Indian Muslims for Promoting Education and Employment of Indian Muslims in 1994. A year later, he founded the Committee for the Empowerment of Muslim Women. In 2003, Mr. Hamid was appointed Member of the prestigious National International Council, a National Body to deliberate on the issue of socio, economic integration of citizens by Prime Minister of India, as one of the members representing civil society representing different parts of India’s political spectrum.In 2008, Mr. Navid Hamid organized Global Minorities Meet, which brought together political activists from 15 countries, who are committed to advancing minority rights.A delegate from United States had representation from the African American community in the Meet too.

Press Release: ''UCSD on My Mind: Education is a Civil Right''
Per the request of Ray King, President and CEO, Urban League of San Diego County, he wanted the movement to know that the Urban League of San Diego County is partnering with San Diego City Councilman Anthony Young, and the NAACP, San Diego Branch to conduct a community forum - "UCSD on My Mind: Education is a Civil Right" to discuss the racial incidents that are occurring at the University of California at San Diego (UCSD).
UCSD Chancellor Mary Anne Fox and UCSD Black Union Student President David Ritcherson (and member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., Eta Sigma Chapter) have been confirmed to attend and give their perspectives on the recent racial incidents that occurred at UCSD and how we can move forward to ensure student safety and to address ways to create a more conducive and harmonious environment for African American students and other underserved populations, attending UCSD. We are also mindful that the UCSD student body and faculty must be more diverse and is one of the rightful demands that USCD students have made. It should be noted that Mr. King and staff have been in communications with the Chancellor, UCSD Student Union, UC Regents, Urban League affiliates in Los Angeles and Sacramento, and elected officials, since the beginning of the incidents, while assisting with mediation and positive resolutions with all parties involved.
The event will be held tonight on Wednesday, March 03, 2010, 6:00 p.m., at Mt. Erie Baptist Church, located as 511 47th Street, San Diego, CA 92113.
Co-sponsoring organizations include the Earl B. Gilliam Bar Association (EBGBA), the National Council of Negro Women, Inc. (NCNW) San Diego Section and the Black American Political Association of California (BAPAC) San Diego. LaVern Davis, Farwest Regional Director, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., will also be in attendance.
